Rockefeller Park, the Cultural Gardens
In honor of
Cleveland’s centennial, John D. Rockefeller donated more than 200 acres of land
to the city to extend Rockefeller
Park with cultural gardens. Located along the well-known
Martin Luther King Boulevard, previously known as
Liberty Boulevard, the Cultural
Gardens are still there today, landscaped to represent the
diverse ethnic and cultural heritages of the people who once populated the
area. Traveling this road is a real metaphor of the historical path taken
by the city and reflects the changes of the season.
Nestled along
Martin Luther King Boulevard, which is one of the most convenient and nonetheless charming arteries of
the city, the Cleveland
Cultural
Gardens
retrace the history of
America
throughout the twentieth-century, the history of immigration to the
United States
as well as the origins of our communities. In these twenty-three gardens
going along
East Boulevard
and
Martin Luther King Boulevard, a representation of the peoples of the world stories is depicted around
the major historical events that modeled the century. These beautiful
cultural gardens are also vested with the mission to offer insight into
the long-lasting social, economic, political, and cultural changes seen in
America
during the last century.
Going northward,
Martin Luther King Boulevard
leads you to the interstate 90, and further north, to the lake and the
Marina. Going westward along the shore, luxury apartments facing the lake are
conveniently located minutes from downtown and its residents enjoy a
marvelous view of the lake and the nearby marina. Going southward on this
Boulevard, one reaches
University Circle, a neighborhood home to numerous
Cleveland
cultural institutions.
